6 facts about tea

Where is tea grown and what do you have to pay attention to when preparing it? Is loose tea better than tea in a bag? The answers to these questions can be found here.

Where is tea grown?
The first thing most people think of is China. However, the largest tea growing area is in India. More precisely, in Assam in the north of India. But we should not forget the large tea growing areas in Sir Lanka, the Chinese provinces Yunnan and Keemun but also in the Himalayas where mainly Darjeeling tea is grown.

Our teas from Araksa come from one of the oldest tea plantations in Thailand, which was newly discovered a few years ago. We have published a separate blog post about this small and exclusive tea plantation, which is well worth reading.

How to store tea?
Tea can absorb foreign odors very quickly and should therefore always be stored separately from strong-smelling foods and always well sealed. It is also important to store tea in a cool and dry place.

What is the difference between the caffeine in coffee and that in tea?
Like coffee, some teas contain caffeine, but it is different from coffee and has a different effect. Tea contains teein, which is bound to polyphenols. The effect of caffeine in coffee occurs via the bloodstream, whereas the effect of teein occurs via the nervous system. The type of tea has an influence on the teein content in tea, but so does the length of time.

If you prefer to avoid teein, we recommend Araksa Bluefly tea, which is caffeine-free and can be drunk hot or cold as an iced tea.

What is the difference between loose tea and tea bags?
Surely you have asked yourself this question many times when buying tea. In fact, the quality of tea depends on its origin, harvest and production, not on whether it is loose or in a bag. It is often the case that the tea in a bag is finer than the loose tea, but this has no influence on the quality.

Araksa teas are of the highest quality and are still produced using traditional methods. This makes every cup a special experience.

How is tea prepared?
Tea preparation is actually quite simple, yet there are a few things to keep in mind so that the flavor can develop optimally.

Boil fresh, cold water but in no case too hot. Please always follow the instructions on the packaging. Too hot water can "burn" the tea and severely affect the quality.
Tea should also be steeped only as long as indicated. This, among other things, so that the flavor can develop optimally and you are not surprised with a bitter sip.

What is that film on the tea?
You have probably also asked yourself what kind of film is on the tea and whether it can still be enjoyed. The film, which is also called tea skin or tea stone says nothing about the quality of the tea. This is formed when you infuse the tea with particularly chalky water.

We hope you enjoy your next cup of tea!
