Nowadays you can buy candles made of different materials. The assortment ranges from kerosene, stearin, to candles made of beeswax. Kerosene candles, which are made from mineral oil, still make up the largest share. However, stearin candles are becoming more and more popular, as they are a very good alternative if you want to avoid mineral oil products.
Which is better kerosene or stearin? The quality of candles depends, among other things, on the production process.
Cheap candles made of kerosene are often industrially produced in a kind of powder process.
Stearin candles, which we have in our assortment, are poured by hand in a European manufactory. These candles are usually heavier than industrially produced candles and also have a longer burning time.
Another process that most people know from childhood is candle making. This process is very laborious and therefore these candles are accordingly expensive.
Is the melting point of stearin candles and kerosene candles different? The melting point of stearin candles is significantly higher than that of comparable kerosene candles, which can start to deform at 40° degrees.
How is stearin produced? Stearin is obtained from vegetable but also animal fats and oils.
Are candles made of stearin expensive? Stearin is more expensive than kerosene. However, if you look at the advantages, it is worth buying stearin candles.
In our shop you will find a wide range of stearin candles from AMABIENTE. AMABIENTE has been designing stearin stick and object candles since 2003 and produces them in a European manufactory. Let yourself be inspired by the large selection of colors and shapes.

The aim of the game is for the opponent's king to be attacked so that it can no longer be defended. In this case, he would be captured on the next move, which is called "checkmate".
Strategic Game The most important thing in chess is to think strategically when playing. You should not just focus on the fact that you are capturing your opponent's pieces. If you want to win, you have to put the opponent's king in distress with the goal that it cannot be moved.
If the king is directly threatened by a piece, this is called "check". If he can't get out of the situation, then he is "mated" and the game is won.
When attacking the opponent's king, you must never forget to protect your own king, otherwise the game will end faster than you would like.
The Chessboard The chessboard consists of 64 squares in "black" and "white". One player plays the "white" pieces and the other the "black" pieces. The game is always started by the player with the "white" pieces and then the players move alternately.
The pieces Each player has eight pawns, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, a queen and a king. The formation at the beginning of the game is always the same.
Moves with the pawns The pawns can only be moved one square straight forward. The exception is the first move, when you can move the pawn two squares forward. It can capture another piece, in which case it must be diagonal to the opponent's piece and you may then move diagonally.
Moves with the towers Towers may be moved forward, backward or sideways in a straight line over any number of squares.
Moves with the knights The knight can move in all directions. It moves two squares forward and one square to the side.
Moves with the bishops The bishop may only be moved diagonally. However, it can move in all four directions and over any number of squares.
Moves with the queen The queen may be moved in any direction, straight or diagonally, and over any number of squares.
Moves with the King The king may move in all directions. However, it may only move one square at a time.
Capturing an opponent's piece An opponent's piece can be captured if it is in the path of one of your own pieces. In this case it can be taken off the board.
For this reason, it is important to always cover your pieces. You should protect your own pieces in such a way that you can capture the opponent's pieces as well, if they capture a piece.

On a beautiful green hill in the Mae Tang district of Chiang Mai, 520 meters above sea level, is one of the oldest tea gardens in Thailand: Araksa Tea Garden. This was discovered a few years ago and brought back to life.
Tea culture in Thailand In this beautiful area, native tea plants are cultivated, which are also called jungle trees. Although tea has been grown in Thailand for centuries, commercial tea cultivation with indigenous plants began only about 50-60 years ago.
Around the same time, tea seedlings from Taiwan were introduced to Chiang Rai in other areas of Thailand. Most of the teas produced there were oolong, which are very similar to the culture and tradition of Taiwan and China.
Araksa Tea Garden is different The Araksa tea variety is different and unique to the area, it is an Assam hybrid that has been around for over 2000 years. Thais consume the tea by fermenting it in a ceramic or bamboo vessel and chewing it with salt. This is similar to chewing tobacco.
When the current owners purchased the tea garden in 2014, they asked a lady from the Lahu Hill Tribe ethnic group to brew the tea for them to taste The Lahu lady picked two young tea leaves and a bud and placed them in a cast iron wok over a portable terracotta charcoal stove. With her hands, she roasted the tea leaves. She turned the leaves over and over and took them out as soon as they were wilted. She then rolled the leaves with her hands and placed them back into the wok, where they continued to roast until they were completely dry. The dried tea leaves were then brewed in hot water and tasted.
During the first tasting of the tea prepared by the Lahu lady, the owners realized that they had the opportunity to develop this tea garden. The garden, which had been untouched for over 15 years, had the best conditions to produce tea of the highest quality. However, at the same time it was very important to them to preserve and continue the culture and tradition of tea making. Thus, method of Lahu lady was adopted until today and is the basis for the creation of Araksa tea line.
Tea of the highest quality The production of high-quality tea means that the environment and the social well-being of the community are taken into account by all those involved - growers, pickers and producers - to ensure harmonious cooperation.
All of Araksa's teas are grown, harvested and processed in a sustainable manner. This benefits both the environment and the community. Araksa is one of the first USDA and EU certified organic tea plantations in Thailand, producing only the finest teas free of chemicals and toxins. At Araksa, a perpetual community is fostered by employing local workers and then equipping them with expertise and skills. Araksa's teas are single-origin teas that come from the garden through the hands of local people to your cup. AVPA "Tea of the World'' Awards Araksa's efforts were quickly rewarded. Just six years after taking over the tea garden, they were honored with the AVPA "Tea of the World'' Awards in Paris in 2020. It was not to stop there, as more awards followed as early as 2021.
2020 Gold Medal Winner (Bluefly tea) Silver Medal Winner (Araksa Thai tea) Gourmet Medal Winner (Silk tea)
2021 Gourmet Medal Winner (Arun White Tea) Gourmet Medal Winner (Sayun White Tea)
Araksa Tea Garden Experience Araksa offers interested people the opportunity to visit the tea garden. Be it for a traditional Thai lunch, a guided tour of the boutique garden, a tea tasting or just for a short stay and a delicious cup.
We hope you enjoy these delicious teas.

Where is tea grown and what do you have to pay attention to when preparing it? Is loose tea better than tea in a bag? The answers to these questions can be found here.
Where is tea grown? The first thing most people think of is China. However, the largest tea growing area is in India. More precisely, in Assam in the north of India. But we should not forget the large tea growing areas in Sir Lanka, the Chinese provinces Yunnan and Keemun but also in the Himalayas where mainly Darjeeling tea is grown.
Our teas from Araksa come from one of the oldest tea plantations in Thailand, which was newly discovered a few years ago. We have published a separate blog post about this small and exclusive tea plantation, which is well worth reading.
How to store tea? Tea can absorb foreign odors very quickly and should therefore always be stored separately from strong-smelling foods and always well sealed. It is also important to store tea in a cool and dry place.
What is the difference between the caffeine in coffee and that in tea? Like coffee, some teas contain caffeine, but it is different from coffee and has a different effect. Tea contains teein, which is bound to polyphenols. The effect of caffeine in coffee occurs via the bloodstream, whereas the effect of teein occurs via the nervous system. The type of tea has an influence on the teein content in tea, but so does the length of time.
If you prefer to avoid teein, we recommend Araksa Bluefly tea, which is caffeine-free and can be drunk hot or cold as an iced tea.
What is the difference between loose tea and tea bags? Surely you have asked yourself this question many times when buying tea. In fact, the quality of tea depends on its origin, harvest and production, not on whether it is loose or in a bag. It is often the case that the tea in a bag is finer than the loose tea, but this has no influence on the quality.
Araksa teas are of the highest quality and are still produced using traditional methods. This makes every cup a special experience.
How is tea prepared? Tea preparation is actually quite simple, yet there are a few things to keep in mind so that the flavor can develop optimally.
Boil fresh, cold water but in no case too hot. Please always follow the instructions on the packaging. Too hot water can "burn" the tea and severely affect the quality. Tea should also be steeped only as long as indicated. This, among other things, so that the flavor can develop optimally and you are not surprised with a bitter sip.
What is that film on the tea? You have probably also asked yourself what kind of film is on the tea and whether it can still be enjoyed. The film, which is also called tea skin or tea stone says nothing about the quality of the tea. This is formed when you infuse the tea with particularly chalky water.
We hope you enjoy your next cup of tea!

Gifts are a sign of appreciation and politeness at an invitation. A good guest therefore never comes empty-handed and chooses his or her gift well thought out and tailored to the host. What sounds so simple is often a challenge.

Organizing a nice event means a lot of planning and effort for the host. It begins with the selection of the menu, the purchase of food and its preparation, to set the table beautifully, to entertain the guests and ends only when all visitors go home happy.
The host is, of course, happy to receive any pledges and does not expect any gifts. Nevertheless, mere appearance is not enough to thank for hospitality. The invitees should always present the host with a suitable gift as a thank you for the invitation and as a token of appreciation.
Agony of the gift choice Often one makes itself too little or much too late thoughts about the correct Mitbringsel and the decision falls on a last-minute gift such as a bottle wine or a bouquet of flowers. Surely you cannot go wrong with this choice, but particularly imaginative and lasting this is certainly not.
So usually the X-th single bottle of wine ends up in the wine cellar and the hostess, who is already tense, has to look for the right vase for the bouquet parallel to the greeting.
Admittedly, if you want to hand over a gift tailored to the host, then this is not always easy and often a challenge. So that the evening does not end in disaster, it is important to think in advance about what might please the host. An invitation from acquaintances or a business event where you don't know the hosts well can often be a headache. Certainly, on the other hand, it is easier when you are invited to friends, because you know their preferences, hobbies and interests well and can choose the gift accordingly.
If the hostess likes to decorate and attaches great importance to beautiful living, then you can not go wrong with a beautiful and high-quality stearin design candle.
If the hosts have children, then a lot of options open up as you can bring a nice gift for the kids instead of the adults. Don't worry, they don't have to get each family member a gift. This would go too far and is not required. One gift, but the appropriate one is quite enough.
If you have found the right souvenir, then you should also wrap it nicely. This is also a sign of appreciation, as you invest time yourself to present a beautiful gift. Admittedly, not everyone has the patience and skill to wrap a gift and it becomes even more difficult if the gift has a special shape. In such cases, you can opt for a product that already has packaging and does not need to be wrapped again.
Last but not least, every gift should be accompanied by a nice card with a few personal lines to thank you for the invitation.
Gift ideas from 1991.one If one would like to do something good for the host, then the high-quality organic teas from Araksa, which have already won the AVPA "Tea of the World" Award in Paris several times, are suitable for example. This is not only a gift for a gourmet, but for all those who care about sustainability and want to know where the products they consume come from.
For example, how about a beautiful object candle from Amabiente instead of a bouquet of flowers? The candles are developed in Switzerland and lovingly handcrafted in a small European manufactory. Amabiente is known for their variety of colors and high-quality stearin candles. For all fans of design and beautiful living, there is the right candle. Be it straight and massive cube, the elegant and filigree Kore or the Skulptura , which is an eye-catcher in any home. For the indecisive, there are already ready-made gift sets in a pretty packaging, which make the heart of every candle lover beat faster.
The team from FINK Product Design Studio in CH-Münchenstein has designed six ceramic figurines and had them produced by Hedwig Bollhagen in Germany. This is an ideal gift for anyone who likes to embellish their home with exclusive objects. People often wonder if a gift certificate is an appropriate gift, or if it is better to avoid this type of gift after all. Many feel it's silly to give away a gift certificate and yet a gift certificate is a better choice than an inappropriate gift. Especially as a last-minute gift vouchers are suitable, because you can buy them online and print them out immediately after completing the order at home.
If one decides for a coupon, then one should give away this however absolutely with a pretty map and personal lines. Presenting the voucher alone without a card in an envelope is very minimalistic and will probably not leave the desired impression.
How much should a hostess gift cost? Uncertainty also often exists in the question of how much a guest gift should cost. This always depends on the occasion and, of course, on the relationship with the host. As a rule, however, one can say that you should be careful with too generous gifts, because you can also embarrass the host with it. The thought could arise that one must return the favor for the generous gift, which is not the purpose of a gift.
A gift is worth just as much as the love with which it was chosen. Thyde Monnier, French writer
It is not important how expensive the gift is. It is much more important that it is personalized to the host and not a chore. If you can surprise the host with an individual gift, then the joy and sustainability is much greater than with an expensive gift that the host does not like.
Getting gifts is a joy, but it is even more joyful when you can present a suitable gift.

Housing plays a very important role in our lives. We all want a beautiful home in which to live and arrange our lives. Decorative items beautify the house and provide well-being and relaxation.
Decorating is not easy. It takes a certain eye and skill to make something look good. However, with the wide range of options, anyone can do it.
The first step is to determine the style you want to choose in your home. Do you want a modern or traditional feel? Are you looking for something that is more feminine or masculine? Once you figure this out, it's time to start buying furniture and accessories.
In order for the decorative objects to have the best effect, we recommend staging only one object or always arranging an odd number. If the choice falls on an odd number, then you achieve the best result with three objects.
You can also find lovingly selected decorative objects. For example, the purist and elegant finches made of ceramic, which are lovingly handmade at Hedwig Bollhagen (Bauhaus).
With the designer Martin Allenbach we have developed three chess sets, each of which is an eye-catcher in any home. The anime chess with its very appealing design language but also the wall chess, which is a beautiful picture but can also be played with it.

We met the designer Manuel Rossegger for an interview.
As a solution-oriented designer, I am fascinated by the challenge of looking at problems from different perspectives in order to find an innovative solution between aesthetics and technology. It is a matter of concern for me to combine my technical as well as creative skills in my profession and to realize products in the best possible design, function as well as quality.
Manuel Rossegger is a trained designer and completed his design education at the Zurich University of the Arts. Since then, he has been working in a design agency in Zurich, where he has already implemented a wide variety of projects from design to realization.
How did you come to design? While looking for a creative profession, I asked myself at some point who actually designs all the great products that I encounter in everyday life and that inspire me. During a trial apprenticeship I had the opportunity to get to know the profession of industrial designer, which has not let me go since then.
What inspires you? Different products and objects that I come across. There are many good and bad designs, I try to learn from the good ones and get inspired.
What does design mean to you? Being versatile, since no two products are the same, I am always encountering new topics and requirements that I first have to familiarize myself with. That's why I took a further education course in interaction design this year, so that I can also work in the digital field.
What are the biggest challenges in the everyday life of a creative? The design of a product is a creative process in which there is no concrete right or wrong. There are always different ideas and drafts to be created, combined and finally brought together to create a coherent and integrated product. There are days when you are bubbling over with ideas and others when you are not.
What demands do you place on a product? As a designer you have a certain responsibility in terms of sustainability, so in my opinion new products should generate long-term added value and be well thought out. If possible, I always try to find my own style for a product, detached from trends.
What does the collaboration with 1991 mean to you? As a young designer, it is difficult to bring your own products to market. The ideas are there but the know-how in certain areas is missing. With 1991 I have found a partner to make such ideas come true.
How would you describe your creative process? The search for the best possible combination of form and functionality.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us? I'm looking forward to a great and creative collaboration.
Thank you, Manuel, for your time and the exciting insight.

We met designer Martin Allenbach for an interview.
"I find our creative activity fascinating because I feel it contributes to culture by offering products that didn't exist before. Within the creative process, I am attracted by the challenge of being able to reinterpret and combine icons or stereotypes. The possibility of uniting distant concepts and offering sustainable solutions that are less aggressive for the environment seems to me a great contribution on our part."
Martin Allenbach is a designer with roots in Switzerland and Argentina who lives with his family on Lake Zurich. He studied at the State University of Buenos Aires and at the School of Design and Art in Zurich. This multicultural education shapes and identifies him, which is reflected in his designs. For years, Martin Allenbach has been designing packaging and presentation furniture for well-known brands in the watch and jewelry industry, where he has been able to inspire discerning customers with his ideas time and again.
Tell us something about yourself: Who are you? How would you describe yourself? I consider myself a creative and dynamic designer who enjoys simple, yet intelligent solutions to the task at hand.
What inspires you? I like the idea that inspiration is a connection of our personal story, combined with the needs of the environment around us.
How did you get into design? My closeness to design started in a carpentry shop where I made wooden toys in the 90s. So, I think designing toys will always accompany me as a parallel and personal activity.
How would you describe your creative process? When creating projects, my familiarity with design processes, CAD/3D design tools and good communication skills have always helped me to structure new projects quickly. I like to create innovative solutions taking into account their profitability and market needs and bring them to market. Besides my creativity, I also have very good knowledge in the use of machines and tools to produce models and prototypes independently.
Thank you, Martin, for your time and the exciting insight.

We met designer Marion Blum for an interview.
"Product design and the creative craft are not just a profession for me, but a vocation that I live 24/7. Innovative approaches to solutions, different thinking and the principle "there's no such thing as can't" always guide me a way through the development phases of my ideas. My designs often captivate with their simplicity and harmony. Nevertheless, here and there you can find a playful element that reflects one of my character traits - not to take myself and life too seriously."
Marion Blum is a native of Lake Constance and lives with her family in central Switzerland not far from Lake Lucerne. After discovering her passion for creative work in childhood, she always pursued an artistic career in various art schools. She completed her training as a goldsmith as the second chamber winner and subsequently studied integrated design. She worked as a product designer for several years as an employee. Since June 2021 Marion Blum has been working as an independent product designer and artisan. Marion Blum's main focus is on jewelry and accessories, textile products, as well as furniture and other lifestyle products.
Tell us something about yourself: Who are you? How would you describe yourself? Although I am a bit chaotic and occasionally seem absent-minded, I am (also due to our 2 small children) an organizational and planning talent who soaks up all creative possibilities and can retrieve them at later points in time. I would describe myself as a bit cheeky, humorous and always looking for new tasks. Other than that, you can find me outdoors a lot and playing sports.
What inspires you? The question is rather, what doesn't inspire me?
How did you get into design? Even as a child, I was constantly involved in the creative field, so it quickly became clear that I would like to pursue a creative profession one day. However, while preparing for an internship in the field of animated film, I realized that I was not cut out for non-stop work on a computer. My hands always need to be integrated into the creative processes. So, I decided to train as a goldsmith. The world of giving shape to one's own ideas fascinated me more and more, which solidified the desire to study. To be honest, I don't think I had a choice. The path seemed predetermined for me and I couldn't have found a better one for myself.
What demands do you place on a product? That depends on what the "product" is supposed to do. It can be simply "beautiful" and possibly achieve cult status through its aesthetics. Other products, on the other hand, require a technically innovative approach. My personal demand is that every product is as well thought out as possible and in the best case solves a problem or is not yet available on the market in this form. .
What is particularly important to you when choosing colors and materials? For me it is always important that a product has a harmonious effect. If the basic design is right, it will look coherent in almost any combination of colors and materials. However, I find it important that the colors and materials used are in harmony with the product and its purpose.
How would you describe your creative process? Basically, all my designs are created on paper. In first sketches I recognize the possible proportions and get an impression of how the product will look like. Depending on the project, I then create small handmade models or true-to-scale 3D data and photorealistic renderings.
What are the biggest challenges in the everyday life of a creative? In my case, the biggest challenge is balancing family life with my desire to continue being creative. Another challenge is deciding what project to tackle next. Since my head is full of ideas for creative projects, prioritizing is sometimes difficult.
What does work with 1991 mean to you? By collaborating with 1991, I get a unique chance to realize my long-held dream - to independently bring lovingly designed products to the market and make them accessible to a wide audience.
Cooperation with 1991 Thank you 1991 for recognizing the potential that designers offer. For giving me the opportunity to balance work and family life. I look forward to breaking new ground with 1991 and taking the versatility and multi-faceted nature of product design to a new level.
Thank you, Marion, for your time and the exciting insight.
